Athlete of the Week: 10 questions with Colin Scheid, Loyola football

Jun 02, 2024

Colin Scheid is a senior linebacker for the Ramblers. In his team’s 45-7 first-week win, Scheid had an interception and two sacks.

1. Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

One thing I do is I wear the same shirt (under my jersey) for every single game. It’s a Loyola lacrosse cut-off T-shirt. I think ever since sophomore year when I got that shirt I’ve been doing it for lacrosse games and football games.

2. What do you hope to do next year?

After I graduate, I’m hoping to play college football somewhere. I’m still not sure where. It’s just a hope right now. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved playing the sport. Freshman year I fell in love with the sport. I just love hitting people.

3. What is your favorite thing to do off the field?

Off the field I would definitely say hang out with my friends and also my dog, a golden-doodle. His name is Shea and he is 9 years old.

4. Who is your favorite athlete?

When I was a kid, I would always say Patrick Kane (. I grew up liking hockey too. I would still say Patrick Kane.

5. If you could try another sport, what would it be?

Right now, if I could try another sport, it would be something I’ve never done, like archery. I did it a few times at sleepaway camp.

6. What is your dream job?

I would probably say running my own business in some way or another. I’ve always been more inclined to do the managing side of work. Having an idea and having it come to life is one of the most fulfilling things for me.

7. If you’re in Walgreens with a couple bucks, what are you buying?

I’m definitely buying LifeSavers mints. That’s my favorite.

8. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

I would travel to Maldive coast. My parents went there for their honeymoon and in the pictures, it looks absolutely gorgeous.

9. What is something people don’t know about you?

Probably that I’m a picky eater. There are lots of foods I haven’t tried before. I say I don’t like them, but I haven’t even tried them. An example is calamari. I’ve never had it and assume I wouldn’t like it.

10. How is the team feeling after the Week 1 win and the rest of the season?

We got to keep what we did in the first week consistent. We have been working hard in practice. We need to keep playing hard and playing through the whistle on defense and keep up what we’ve been doing. We were very excited for coach to get his first win as head coach.
