Polaris – the UK’s leading submission grappling and BJJ promotion – is set to return to action this Saturday, June 3, with a card headlined by a welterweight title match between rapidly rising British black belt Jed Hue and ADCC veteran Mateusz Szczecinski.

The main event has all the makings of a fast-paced battle.

A longtime Polaris veteran known for his dangerous leg locks and lighting-fast submission attacks, Jed Hue has spent the last couple of years making a name for himself as one of Europe’s top competitors. In his most recent Polaris appearance, he took second in the middleweight grand prix, taking out EBI champion Alan Sanchez and Oliver Taza before losing to Roberto Jimenez in the final.

Last November, Hue spoke to Grappling Insider about that performance, as well as his goals in the organization.

Mateusz Szczecinski, meanwhile, burst onto the scene last year with a strong showing at the ADCC European Trials, as well as an upset submission victory over William Tackett at the 2022 ADCC World Championships.

Like Hue, the Polish athlete is known for his elite leg lock game. But unlike his opponent, Szczecinski prefers his trademark shotgun ankle lock rather than twisting attacks like the heel hook.

Fans can expect no shortage of submission attempts in this matchup. And while many of those attempts are likely to be leg locks, don’t be surprised if Hue looks to attack more upperbody submissions, as he possesses a top-tier arm saddle series.

Before Hue and Szczecinski clash, veteran 10th Planet black belt Nathan Orchard will square off with The B-Team’s Ethan Crelinsten with the lightweight tile on the line.

In many ways, Orchard is the quintessential 10th Planet grappler; he is an aggressive submission hunter that’s plenty willing to take risks in order to find the finish. For his part, Crelinsten is one of the planet’s top back-takers and comes into the contest following a sensational submission victory over Fabricio Andrey earlier this year at Who’s Number One.

Also in action will be multiple-time ADCC veteran Keith Krikorian, who takes on fellow ADCC vet Tom Halpin.

Krikorian is no stranger to the elite no-gi scene, owning notable wins over Kieran Kichuk, Gabriel Sousa, and Josh Cisneros. He’ll put his world-class leg locks and back-taking game up against submission hunter Tom Halpin. Like Krikorian, the Irish-born grappler can attack a wide variety of submission, but most often gets the job done with leg locks.
